Job Description :

ECO Family Health Center in Wetumka is accepting applications for a Medical Receptionist. The receptionist is the point of contact for all patient appointments, either made by phone or in-person. This is a full-time position: Monday-Friday.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains a professional demeanor, always keeping in mind that the front desk makes both the first and last impression on each patient.
  • Works in harmony with others and exhibits a positive attitude and a commitment to the basic mission of the organization.
  • Periodically checks waiting area to ensure that all patients have been registered and are being served in a timely manner and are not in medical distress. Acts as liaison between patients and staff in maintaining smooth patient flow. Keeps waiting room clean throughout the day.
  • Exhibits awareness of cultural factors and shows competence in reducing barriers to the provisions of health care services.
  • Assumes responsibility for correctly entering all required registration and insurance information on established and new patients into the computer. Also verifies above information at each appointment to ensure that it is correct. Follows all collection policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for answering telephones, and handling the calls according to current policies and procedures as needed.
  • Schedules all in‑house (follow‑up) and future (phone) appointments via computer while directing same day appointment calls and walk‑in patients to nurse if the schedule is full, as needed.
  • Works with staff and providers to arrange and schedule outside referral appointments.
  • Documents all referral activity, follow-up from referral source, and patient/staff communication in patient’s EHR to ensure completion of referral.
  • Works closely with the outside referral source and clinical staff/providers to overcome any obstacles that may prevent patient from completing referral.
  • Actively works to ‘close the referral loop’ in a timely manner by obtaining consultation notes, diagnostic testing results, screening procedures, etc. from referral source.
  • Correctly scans documentation of referral results in patient’s electronic medical record after reviewed from patient’s ordering PCP, attaching the results to the referral order, closing the referral loop.
  • Adheres to team concept by assisting other staff as needed.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidentiality. Complies with all HIPPA privacy and security rules/laws.
  • Assists visitors, vendor’s pharmaceutical representatives, equipment repair persons, etc. by routing them to the appropriate areas.
  • Actively participates in agency sponsored staff training events (safety instruction, evacuation drills, OSHA training, etc.) Follows Infection Control guidelines.
  • Required alteration of standing, sitting, walking, bending and lifting throughout the day.
  • Must be able to travel to any of the ECOFHC sites to help provide coverage when needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School graduate minimal required.
  • A.A. Degree or Vocational Degree Preferred.
  • Typing and computer skills and prior telephone experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to move more than one task at a time and flow from one task to another smoothly.
  • Ability to continue a task after an interruption and adaptable to change

Physical Requirements:

Physical:

  • Must be active, have the use of both hands and legs, bend, twist, squat, walk have good eyesight, good hearing, mentally quick and active.
  • Requires physical stamina to fulfill the duties of this position.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Accuracy/Dexterity:

  • Must be exact in work,
  • Must be able to spot conditions or circumstances which might lead to mistakes.
  • Must have good eye-hand coordination;
  • Must have manual dexterity;
  • Must be ambidextrous to a certain extent.

Mental Ability:

  • Must be able to exercise full mental application at all times and under a variety of conditions;
  • Must be able to shift attention from one subject to another with ease;
  • Must have a receptive and retentive mind;
  • Must be able to make decisions and
  • Must be able to accept criticism or recommendations without becoming hostile or mentally disturbed.
