POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist position provides medical assistance to the clients served through NYAP including performing occupational assessments as needed. Review pertinent documents including medical, clinical charts, interviewing clients, family members, guardians and/or significant others as appropriate regarding client’s past and present functional levels, capabilities, performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Occupational Therapist will perform duties including, but not limited to:

  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies
  • Perform occupational assessments and utilize appropriate occupational therapy assessment tools on each client upon arrival and intake.
  • Assure the need for interventions and skill building in preparation for transition and after transition, are being met.
  • Assure the administration and implementation of physician orders, and when appropriate, educate the appropriate staff on administering medication and/or treatment as needed.
  • Assure all documentation and required record keeping is completed in a timely manner.
  • Assess minor illnesses and administer non-prescription medications per approved Standing Orders Policy.
  • Schedule and coordinate examinations by the consulting physician for each individual.
  • Coordinate care with the Care Coordinator and appropriate care team members to assist in medical, physical, and mental wellbeing of individuals served.
  • Assure the program’s compliance with Policies and Procedures as well as Standing Orders
  • Reviews medical and clinical charts, and other personal documentation to monitor physical and mental health progress.
  • Consults with other professionals regarding treatment planning and medical recommendations.
  • Maintain Red Cross CPR/First Aid Trainer’s Certification.
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director or other direct supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in occupational therapy
  • Must be a Occupational Therapist with valid licensure.
  • Occupational Therapist experience working with mental health is preferred.
  • Must be available for on-call phone consultations as needed.
  • Must be able to maintain compliance with attending agency required training programs.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

OTHER SKILLS

  • Reliable transportation with a safe driving record.
  • Reliable, working telephone.
  • Openness to working in diverse groups.
