Monday thru Thursday, 10 hour work day with a flexible morning start time between 8a-10a

Full Time with Benefits including PTO, 403b, and Insurance

$40.00 per hour

$1,500 Hiring Bonus


Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Registered Nurse provides nursing services and is responsible for overseeing general health, nutrition, and medical needs for program participants. The Registered Nurse will also interact with program participants and so must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. At all times, the Registered Nurse will seek to act in accord with the principles and values expressed in the guidelines and uphold the agency mission “to serve individuals with developmental disabilities by providing an array of residential and other support services that will result in maximizing the person’s quality of life.”

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Has an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or completion of a Diploma program in nursing
  • Has an active and valid Registered Nurse license issued by the Washington Department of Health
  • Has at least six months experience working as a nurse
  • Has a Washington State Drivers license, current vehicle and able to be covered on Alpha Supported Living Services’ automobile insurance plan based upon his/her driving record
  • Can pass a background inquiry clearance from an authorized state agency
  • Has basic clinical and diagnostic skills and the ability to use these skills to develop training and guide others towards using knowledge in a way that supports client needs
  • Has knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Has knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and other diagnoses with a corresponding behavioral component.
  • Is able to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job and monitor/assess the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Has advanced skills necessary to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Has an intermediate ability to communicate with people inside and outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.

What Your Day Looks Like:

  • Ensures that the medical needs of program participants are met
  • Maintains contact with program participants on, at least, a monthly basis in order to properly oversee general health and medical stability. For those receiving nursing hours as part of the DSHS contract, the nurse will provide direct nursing contact as required by contract
  • Develops a medical care plan as part of IISP for each participant with exceptional medical issues. This plan will be updated on an annual basis, at minimum
  • Performs the necessary nursing tasks and provide medically necessary care and support to program participants
  • Provides basic physical examinations as outlined in participants’ medical care plan (included in the IISP)
  • Communicates with guardians and other authorized parties of health issues before and after medical appointments
  • Schedules and attends medical appointments to ensure proper oversight of health needs; Document any health care appointments attended.
  • Works with others to maintain a record of appointments and ensure that every participant receives an annual physical and dental examination annually (at a minimum)
  • Reviews all health care providers’ recommendations, ensuring the recommendations are followed; Communicate and document updates as needed so that participant care is supported at all times
  • Provides medication oversight; Fill new prescriptions and order refills as necessary or as prescribed; Works with the pharmacy and health care providers to develop and maintain accurate medication administration records for each program participant, updating as necessary
  • Provides oversight of the dietary and nutrition needs of the participants
  • Develops menu plans and train staff on implementation
  • Provides oversight of grocery items purchased, as well as meals prepared to ensure the menu plans are being followed for medically-sensitive dietary plans (gluten-free/casein-free, diabetic, allergy prevention, etc.)
  • Provides guidance and training to employees regarding participants medical needs and medications
  • Provides training as requested or as necessary to ensure participants receive appropriate medical supports; Develop and deliver training that meets participant needs
  • Informs staff of recommendations from appointments and information pertaining to new medications and/or treatments
  • Maintains medical documentation as necessary or relevant (includes, but is not limited to)
    • Psychoactive medications
      • Informed consents
      • Treatment plans
      • Medication reviews
      • Nurse delegation paperwork, including collaboration with Delegating Nurse to ensure compliance with regulations and statutes
  • Participates in staff meetings and training sessions. Attend other meetings and seminars; Complete individual training requirements annually
  • Creates and maintains electronic medical record information system records and compiles reports from the database
