Who we are

The Research Information Systems department, also known as MAESTRO, supports the mission of Sponsored Research Services (SRS) through development, implementation, and maintenance of the Maestro enterprise information system. This system supports researchers across the Texas A&M University System. By maintaining and improving Maestro, our employees serve a critical role to the advancement of the research goals of the university.

Job Description Summary

The Lead Software Developer is responsible for: Developing, documenting and testing complex MAESTRO functionality and general system maintenance; maintaining the development environment and development operations functions; serving as technical lead for a specific software development project or service; and reviewing the quality of the work produced by other developers.

Job Responsibilities

40% - Developer

Leads development projects on a technical level. Develops, estimates, tests, and supports complex MAESTRO modules using various technologies like Spring Boot, Angular, Weblogic, Oracle JDeveloper, ADF, PL/SQL, and Java programming language.

25% - Designer

Produces development and design specifications for MAESTRO system configuration components and coordinates their development. Provides technical oversight of the implementation of these designs.

15% - Quality Assurance

Provides technical oversight and coordination for coding in accordance with established standards.

10% - Mentor

Supports, mentors, and trains MAESTRO developers.

5% - DevOps

Writes technical documentation and is involved in the full software development lifecycle and maintenance of the lifecycle including issue management using Jira.

5% - Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related software applications development experience
  • Skills using relational databases, Java, Javascript, RESTful web services
  • Ability to lead technical projects
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Angular, Spring Boot, Maven, Git experience

Nice to have:

  • Oracle ADF, Oracle Database and PL/SQL

Work Remotely

  • On site at the moment, working on a hybrid model.
