Pay Rate Range: $25 -$28 per hour
As an experienced bookkeeper/Accountant, you will support the office by using your experience and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the financial properties of a law office to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of the goals and objectives of the department.
You will develop and supervise responsibilities including but not limited to bill preparation, processing, and analysis, review of accounts payable and employee reimbursements, cost recovery, Month End, General Ledger, and client and billing receipts.
You will help assist the Office Administrator with the monthly review and comments on the budget variances. You will also assist the Finance Committee members with their responsibilities.
· Managing and developing accounting staff; organizing, assigning, delegating, and coordinating the work of the staff to ensure the department and office objectives are met timely and accurately
· Acting as a liaison between billing attorney/secretarial staff, practice office billing staff, and clients’ staff by providing expert-level subject matter support; responding to internal and external inquiries in a timely manner
· Acting as liaison with the Board of Trustees and external CPA firm; ensuring corrective action is in place for future submissions
· Monitoring costs, with special attention to aged balances; working with the billing department, and staff to bill and collect from Union Members and business contracts.
· Acting as liaison with local Finance Committee members in support of Finance Committee objectives; ensuring preparation and participation in quarterly Finance Committee calls and facilitating any actionable next steps resulting from calls
· Preparing and monitoring the annual budget and monthly budget variance reports
· Managing the monthly general ledger, investigating discrepancies and submitting adjustments
· Monitoring daily cash receipts report, unapplied cash status listing, discrepancies, and unidentified receipts on Quickbooks
· Securing appropriate signatures for manual checks; approving account reconciliation and requests for replenishment of operating accounts
· Implementing and administering firm accounting guidelines and procedures while acting within the scope of authority in a manner consistent with firm guidelines, policies, and practices
As an Accountant, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The Accountant will possess the ability to perform mathematical functions such as calculating ratios, and knowledge of algebraic formulas, the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion, the ability to proofread the work of others to ensure compliance and accuracy, and the ability to use independent judgment and discretion when making the majority of decisions.
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is a plus. A minimum of six (6) years of increasingly complex accounting experience is desired as well as a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in an accounting management capacity, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in general accounting practices desired.
