AUTOMOTIVE TESTING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES, INC.

VEHICLE TEST DRIVER
SUMMARY: Safely drive test vehicles on defined routes in accordance with company policy and procedures applicable to Uvalde Proving Grounds and/or Public Traffic Rules and Laws. Report on tire and vehicle performance or related issues in a defined format and assist in the evaluation of the durability and wear characteristics of tires and/or vehicle performance.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include (but are not limited to) the following:

Flexible in accepting assigned start times and work hours. Work on any of the designated shifts as may be assigned Monday-Friday or Weekends. Call-in daily to obtain work assignment-schedule and consistently report for the work assignments on the date scheduled and on-time.

1. Ability to safely drive on test routes requiring an approximate 8-10 hours of driving time per shift.

2. Demonstrate-acceptable skill levels and overall abilities operating motorized vehicles including passenger cars, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, or specialized vehicles (military vehicles, service vehicles, etc.) safely, legally, courteously, and efficiently as applicable to experience and appropriate for the type of Texas Driver License possessed.

3. Demonstrate defensive and safe driving skills and comply with all applicable Traffic Rules, Laws and Regulations and Company policy and procedures.

4. Check and assure proper operation of all test vehicles and safety systems, with particular attention to safety related items.

5. Assure any components, products, etc. installed for testing are identified and proper documentation related to the tests are accurately recorded.

6. Must be capable of changing tire(s) on assigned vehicles when required (roadside flats).

7. Familiar with identifying basic parts of a motor vehicle.

8. Keep the assigned vehicle clean inside and outside using available equipment and tools.

9. Must be efficient with time management to streamline operations.

10. Able to follow a predetermined route and not vary except in emergency. Must satisfactorily demonstrate Driving Efficiency per data recorded by in-vehicle instrumentation.

11. Must prepare concise, accurate, detailed, and complete records and reports in accordance with both required data, as well as any other information to assist the company in the evaluation of the assigned test and of the various conditions pertaining to the vehicle, the item-product being tested or the overall test operations.

12. Assure the correct-continuous operation of any diagnostic or data acquisition or camera equipment which is installed in the vehicle.

13. Assure facility and employee appearance meet company standards on his/her shift.

14. Set standards for other team members by appropriately modeling company safety, quality, and other operational policies & procedures. Including, but not limited to wearing appropriate PPE

(Personal Protective Equipment).

15. Other duties as may be assigned as requested.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Call-in daily to acquire work schedule assignment-information.

2. Maintain clear communications with supervision and management.

3. Assist all other drivers in need of help as may be required.

4. Act as a coach-mentor for new hires.

5. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time to support the facility/organizational operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and/or experience: Possess a High School diploma or GED. o Non-public highway testing: Due to Insurance, must be a minimum age of 21 with 5 or more years of state approved licensed driving experience, in line with the requisite skills required for Non-public highway driving assignments specific to this position. o Public highway testing: Due to Insurance, must be a minimum age of 25 and have 9 or more years state approved licensed driving experience, in line with the requisite skills required for this position, o Previous test-driving experience preferred, not required.
  • Language skills: Fluent in English. Must be able to read and interpret road signs, safety rules and test procedures in English; able to read, understand, and adhere to Public Highway and

Company rules policies and regulations and/or other applicable guidelines of the Federal Traffic

Administration and the United States and State of Texas Department(s) of Transportation.

  • Special Driving Skills: Capability to drive manual transmission equipped vehicles and have experience towing a trailer, both preferred but not required.
  • Computer skills: Able to use a PC with Microsoft Office applications beneficial, not required.
  • Reasoning and math ability: Must be a team player and able interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing or verbally and perform basic-rudimentary arithmetic.
  • Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Must have a Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean MVR for the last three (3) years. Driver License will be re-checked annually. Must pass a seven (7) year background check.
  • Physical demands: Must be able to lift 25-50 pounds occasionally, and lift and carry 10 pounds throughout the office, parking lot and across outside terrain frequently. Must be able to sit in and operate a motor vehicle continuously for up to 10 or more hours in a work shift. Must be able to frequently bend, twist and squat to enter, exit and inspect a vehicle, its tires, and the underside of a vehicle. Must be able to change tires on vehicle when required (roadside flats).
  • Work environment: Will be required to drive an assigned vehicle on a prescribed driving route using the Public Roadways or utilizing a closed-circuit course (i.e., Proving Ground Paved Test

Tracks and Gravel Roads or Off-Road Courses). Periodically, the assigned vehicles may not have Air Conditioning. On an as-needed or periodic-random basis, the individual may be assigned to assist in an office or may be assigned to assist in custodial and grounds-keeping activities inside/outside the buildings, garages, etc.

Masks are NO LONGER required on site, however, all vehicles are sanitized before and after use. Covid-19 precautions do not apply to the Uvalde Proving Grounds at this time but this is subject to change.
