The Twin-Screw Extruder Operations Manager will be responsible for leading the Company’s 50mm twin screw extruder operations to achieve the development, optimization and commercialization of converting biomass feedstocks into pulp, sugars and lignin at pilot plant scale operation. The role will emphasize integration of twin-screw extruder-based technology with ancillary apparatus for separation of marketable biomass components. The intention is that the selected candidate will continue to be involved in technology scale-up from pilot plant to a demonstration-scale biorefining facility, and ultimately, commercial-scale. The candidate will initially report directly to the company’s President/CEO. The position will require a lot of time devoted to hands-on operations of and familiarization with the Company’s twin screw extruder and related unit operations in anticipation of building a team.

Candidate Requirements:

Experience and Education (minimum):

1. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with twin-screw extruders (experience with biomass processing is a plus).

2. Familiarity with industrial machining shop equipment, operation and maintenance.

3. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.

4. At least a basic knowledge of chemical processes and mechanical equipment operations.

5. Working knowledge of instrumentation, process controls, and data collection systems.

6. Experience with fermentation, especially industrial systems, is a plus.

7. Familiarity with analytical laboratory environment is a plus.

8. Familiarity with Company safety programs and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations.

9. Experience working in a small enterprise/start-up of < 50 employees is desirable, and eventual supervision of operators.

Required Skills:

1. Team player with the ability to both manage and work hands-on with other team members to accomplish various jobs, and to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced operations environment.

2. Ability to participate in a multi-task environment (all company employees wear more than one hat).

3. Ability to collaborate with other employees.

4. Effective written and oral communication skills.

5. Leadership/Supervision of extruder ops employees as operations expand.

6. Ability to work in a “start-up” environment.

Job Functions:

1. Participate in R&D and commercial programs, specifically the technical activities working to commercialize the Company’s biorefining technologies.

2. Operating the Company’s twin-screw extruder, having the ability to re-configure screw elements and troubleshoot when needed to meet desired product specifications.

3. Participate in weekly project meetings.

4. Interface with the business team to implement and accomplish company goals and contract milestones.

This position is open to candidates authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer. Relocation expenses are available to the right candidate.
