Job Summary:

Maintain current and adequate knowledge of existing Nelson-Jameson, Inc. hardware and software in use to maximize efficiency of our systems and users' utilization of them. Work with VP of IT to maintain and improve the company's primary computer system, PC, and networking equipment. Install and maintain computer hardware/software and intranet/Internet connections.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide application support and enhancements to existing applications. Define system requirements, priorities, and viable alternatives. Coordinate the efforts of staff to locate, assess, install, test, and maintain computer software systems. Coordinate conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.
  • Database Administration for MSSQL Server 2016, including implementing operational automation using scripts as needed.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a disaster recovery plan for IT operation.
  • Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users, which cannot be resolved at a help desk level.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the VP of IT for system components into the department.
  • Recommend improvements to computers, networks and system functions to the VP of IT as needed. Maintain all other office equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinate training of new employees on general login information, email, and phone system usage.
  • Automate, track and resolve database related incidents and requests, review service related reports, (e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved quickly.
  • Recommend and implement Nelson-Jameson, Inc. IT policies, standards of practice and security measures to ensure effective and consistent information, and to safeguard information resources.
  • Provide technical support as a second line of support to staff as needed through the help desk system.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for Windows based domain and application servers, Zoom Phone System, SQL servers, EDI, Content Management, Remote Access, Wireless Access and e-commerce as well as a variety of application software.
  • Add and maintain users on the network; assigning application access, ensuring security, and maintaining their configurations are within standards.
  • Assist internal Web Team in the administration and development of the Nelson-Jameson, Inc. website as necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of developments in the area of systems and the use of systems within our industry.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: High school degree or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2-3 years IT operation with a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Experience: Data management techniques, including backup, recovery, and database design and administration.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. An office environment is typical in this position, with occasional visits to the warehouse. The noise level is generally quiet.
