DEPARTMENT: PHYSICAL THERAPY DEPARTMENT

TITLE: PHYSICAL THERAPIST OFFICE Receptionist

DEFINITION:

Under direction the Physical Therapist Office Assistant Manager supports the physical therapy operations by maintaining office systems, preparing treatment area, patient, equipment and materials; performing procedures,. Reports to the Physical Therapy Office Manager and Physical Therapy Director.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

The duties listed below are examples of work typically performed by an employee in this position. An employee may not be assigned all duties listed and may be assigned duties which are not listed below.   • Maintain office services by organizing office operations and procedures, control correspondence, designing and maintaining file systems; reviewing and approving supply requisitions.
  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, material, supplies, and equipment in the department.
  • Receives and directs phone calls, taking accurate messages when needed.
  • Prepares patients for PT treatment by welcoming, comforting, providing/assisting into PT apparel or apertures.
  • Provides information to patients by answering questions and requests; allaying fears.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances PT dept and organizing a reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Assist office manager with maintaining PT supply inventory by checking stock; anticipate needed supplies, ordering supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Check in, screening, scheduling appointments
  • Tend to all faxes that come in, fax out IE/POC/DC
  • Make initial calls to patients to schedule evaluations and pick up paperwork.
  • Registration for patients in Athena/Web PT with accuracy
  • Charge Entry for services
  • Authorizations
  • Filing, Pull charts and prepare for next day visit, follow-up calls when a patient falls off schedule, tear down charts and file properly after discharge, match book to Web PT schedule,
  • Chart Reviews
  • Run reports in Web PT: current active patients, Medicare Threshold report, Fax log, POC signed within

30 days of Initial Evaluation, etc.

  • Assist office manager in any tasks require
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Cross Training as tech in the event that there is a need

  • Functional Maintenance Program fill in (long term care)
  • Preparing patients for treatment: helping patients onto exercise equipment, educate and demonstrate exercises to patients, following patient through exercise routine, managing flow, completing flow sheet, applying e-stim,

MHP, IP, paraffin dip, ultrasound, set up mechanical traction, notify provider for manual therapy, sanitizing equipment between patients.

  • Other Physical Therapy Tech duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

Knowledge and Ability:

Knowledge of

  • medical terminology, medical codes, bookkeeping, accounting, filing, and typing;
  • proficient in the use of computers;
  • physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology;
  • disease processes and related causative factors;
  • benefits and values of rehabilitative medicine and rehabilitative medicine agents;
  • Infection Control, sterile technique and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.

Ability to

  • interact with the public in a professional manner;
  • effectively communicate orally and in writing;
  • comply with MGGH Polices/procedures, safety procedures and departmental policies and procedures;
  • interact with the public in a professional manner;

  • Practice situational awareness and avoid injury to yourself and patient in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to obtain a BLS Certification within the first 6 months
  • Ability to ambulate patients in wheelchairs, gait belt, etc,.
  • Ability to handle unpleasant smells, sounds, and visiuals.
  • Ability to communicate with other departments daily; giving report, answering/asking questions, etc,.

Experience and Training:

Any combination in training, education, and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is:

At least 1 years previous experience in clinical or rehabilitation services or related department OR

Two (2) or more years of previous experience in aspects of rehabilitative medicine AND

Per NRS 449 and NRS 200.5091, successful applicant(s) must pass required state and federal background checks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

This position can be physically demanding and often requires incumbent to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and stand for long periods. In addition, very heavy work of moving objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of item’s weighing 50 pounds or more. Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects. Ability to perceive similarities and differences in color. Eye-hand-foot coordination. Ability to move fingers easily and skillfully. Ability to perceive pertinent details and verbal or tabular material. Constant standing and walking required in working with patients. Ability to comprehend Doctors orders is an essential element of this job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed under the following conditions:

Work environment is generally clean and comfortable. Lighting conditions are typically good. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur. Changes in days off and shifts are possible and incumbent will be required to be available on short notice. Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids is common. It is common to engage with family members of residents and patients during emotionally difficult periods of time.
