Responsibilities

Our UT Health Athens hospital is seeking an experienced Phlebotomist. We are looking for your experience, knowledge and patient care skills in our Laboratory where you will be responsible for:

  • Collect blood specimens by venipuncture of capillary method or urine drug screens in a timely, effective manner using organization policies and procedures
  • Follow organization policies and procedures for proper identification of the patient and properly label all specimens at the bedside
  • Responds in an effective manner to priority collection needs. Organizes work in order to obtain acceptable turnaround time for collection of all priorities of specimens
  • Performs bedside testing procedures i.e. bleeding times, clotting times, therapeutic phlebotomies

Qualifications

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year phlebotomy experience preferred and/or nationally recognized (ASCP) certification preferred
Experience:
  • Prefer one (1) year phlebotomy experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • A personal demeanor that exemplifies courtesy and empathy
  • Basic personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows operating system; database and word processing skills required
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to think strategically and act tactically
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to embrace the client relationship to guide decisions and actions
  • Demonstrates good team work
Certification and Licensure:
  • Nationally recognized (ASCP) certification preferred
