Our team in Owatonna, MN is seeking an Operations Engineering Manager who will lead and effectively supervise the operations engineering teams for the manufacturing operation. This role leads engineers and supervisors of: manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and receiving. This position is directly responsible for developing, promoting, and maintaining our technical teams culture, Wengers operations engineering system, and our future factory technology vision.


At a minimum you'll need:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline (mechanical, industrial, electrical, or engineering technology)
  • Ten (10) years of experience in engineering and technical roles including: capital planning and implementation, quality systems, and manufacturing process development
  • Demonstrated solid experience in leadership, communication, and talent development
  • Proven experience with lean tools and culture including MDI, kaizen, and cycle time/takt time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products

  • Master's degree or MBA


As the Operations Engineering Manager a typical day might include:

  • Directly leading and developing the engineering teams including manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering and standards, quality assurance, and receiving/inspection
  • Leading the quality systems vision and execution
  • Leading the quality engineer & QA supervisor to guide the development and precision of both internal and external quality systems
  • Leading manufacturing engineering team to develop best practices in equipment utilization, safety, and lean process development
  • Developing and administering annual operations capital plan for equipment, facility improvements & repairs, and safety modifications
  • Championing continuous improvement in the business, helping to implement efficient processes and practices across the organization to influence our SQDC improvement goals.
  • Developing and keeping current the future vision for the facility for footprint, inventory, and equipment best practices with the goal to drive lean processes and principals into layouts and processes from a facility view level
  • Leading the ISO process across the organization through QA and engineering teams and ensuring compliance and maintenance of our certification
  • Leading quality system processes to ensure compliance to our ISO standards, in response to internal and external quality issues, and in support of the product teams efforts
  • Overseeing corporate administration of NCMR system and providing the manufacturing and product teams direction on disposition
  • Leading business management system (BMS) review with support to successfully meet ISO 9001:2015 and business improvement goals
  • Assisting purchasing with vendor analysis, selection, certification, and development
  • Approving process change and improvement activities including coordinating engineering changes, releasing drawings, and being responsible for accuracy of drawings and specifications minimizing the need for rework and/or delay in processing and manufacture of quality products
  • Championing the engineering change order process for manufacturing team led by the design engineering team
