Position Summary:

The Nurse Informaticist serves as a vital liaison between the Information Technology department and healthcare professionals. They design and implement system solutions to improve the full spectrum of health care services from scheduling, direct patient care, ancillary services, and revenue cycle. They provide knowledge/ experience based support to highly visible, sensitive, and multi-faceted initiatives. They are responsible for the successful turnover of projects and other requests to production. The Nursing Informaticist is responsible for duties relating to application and systems installation and implementation, developing system scope and design objectives through analysis and research. They are responsible for the configuration of vendor maintained systems and/or developing and modifying hospital hosted systems and assisting with related coordination efforts. This role and responsibility includes duties related to project management, small scope project management (which may include design, analysis, and implementation) as well as the daily operational activities associated with the assigned systems, applications, and projects. They will coordinate special system projects in support of organizational strategic initiative goals. The Nurse Informaticist serves as a professional leader and resource for professional staff and acts as a role model in support of the mission and values of the Medical Center. They will maintain professional standards of conduct and ethics as outlined in department expectations and professional organizations.

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Serves as the liaison for health IT efforts representing nursing and other clinical needs to include training/education.
  • Incorporates nursing research and evidence-based knowledge into the informatics practice.
  • Works with clinical and IT team members in evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and workflows that impact clinical users.
  • Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of strategies to support and integrate quality patient care and professional practice.
  • Provides critical analysis and evaluation of health IT and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflows to achievement of positive patient outcomes.
  • Promotes safe, effective, and efficient use of health IT.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data in collaboration with quality on patient safety issues and outcomes to leadership/management.
  • Supports nursing leadership to implement infrastructure including policies and procedures that support the nursing community.
  • Collaborates with leadership in project/program planning and development that supports department and organizational initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nursing licensure with at least 3 years clinical experience, required.
  • Prior experience with clinical systems and technologies, preferred.
  • Experience with Clinical Information System implementations, optimizations, and end-user training in support of both inpatient and outpatient initiatives, preferred.
  • Demonstrates fundamental leadership skills of planning, organizing, prioritizing and facilitating, required.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with basic Microsoft Office tools, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with internal/external staff, consultants, and vendors, required. Previous experience with interdisciplinary governance processes and change control management, preferred. Knowledge in fundamentals of hospital organization, management techniques, Joint Commission, HIPAA, and Title 22 requirements, preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, required.
  • Master's degree, preferred.

Licenses:

  • Active California Registered Nursing licensure, required.

Certification:

  • BLS certification, preferred. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
