Position: Geotechnical Engineering and Laboratory Coordinator

Department: Geotechnical Engineering Services

Reports to: Geotechnical Engineering Services Manager

Mid-State Engineering and Testing is hiring a select, motivated, communicative, positive individual to fill the newly created position of Geotechnical Engineering and Laboratory Coordinator. This position will function within a small, dynamic, growth-oriented team setting as the primary engineering associate and laboratory technician to the Geotechnical Services Manager and aid in laboratory testing of soils and aggregates to the Project Manager.

General Responsibilities: Perform geotechnical engineering support tasks (administrative and technical) and laboratory testing for Geotechnical engineers and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) project managers. Tasks include, but not limited to: preparing laboratory documents for reports, performing laboratory testing of engineering and CMT materials (e.g. soil, aggerates, concrete); process and distribute project information; communicate with project engineers, managers, staff and clients as needed; develop basic knowledge, understanding and abilities related to engineering and CMT industry.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates and concrete, calculate results and document in LIMS
  • Draft field boring logs, laboratory results, and other documents associated with engineering reports
  • Track laboratory workflow ensuring all testing is completed according to deadlines
  • Communicate laboratory data and project information to/with engineers, project managers and staff
  • Administer engineering project tracking system and field drilling schedule
  • Maintain organization of project information, cleanliness of lab and equipment, calibration of instruments

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required (Some college level mathematics and writing education preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), Adobe PDF, Google Sheets
  • Basic mathematical aptitude
  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced team environment; accomplish tasks within tight deadlines
  • Available to work 40+ hours per week as needed
  • Experience in the civil engineering industry preferred but not required (will train the right candidate)
