Position Title: Compounding Manager
Reports To: Pharmacist In Charge
Position Summary: The Compounding Manager demonstrates a commitment to the mission of the Pharmacy and goals of APS Pharmacy, Inc. and Belmar Pharma.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Compounding Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the Lead Compounding Technician and Compounding Pharmacists.
Essential Elements of the Job:
· Leads the development of processes necessary for the smooth operation of their area of responsibility. Anticipates needs for pharmacy clinical and operations services and assumes a leadership role in meeting those needs.
· Provides program-level management as well as shift specific management in areas of responsibility. Performs supervisory responsibilities through selection, training, evaluating, counseling, and corrective action of staff.
· Demonstrates active leadership internal and external to the Pharmacy as an active member of pharmacy department committees, multidisciplinary committees, and/or professional association committees.
· Proactively seeks opportunities to improve performance and customer satisfaction and implements processes to minimize waste.
· Builds and maintains relationships with key individuals and solicits feedback regarding pharmacy performance. Develops policies and standard operating procedures and/or clinical decision support in response to Clinical, Operational, Financial drug use needs. Prior to implementation of new policies and guidelines, ensures that appropriate communication and staff education have occurred.
· Provides clinical or operational leadership through in-service programs and/or publications for health care providers on appropriate drug use, the medication use system, and/or drug policy.
· Provides clinical and operational pharmacist services.
· Ensures and audits compliance with federal, state, local and institutional policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
· Supports the development of budgets and financial stewardship goals. Monitors financial and productivity performance and addresses variances in area of responsibility
Education, Skills, Experience:
· Pharm.D. or BS Pharmacy degree and current pharmacy licensure in the state of Florida. Other states licensure may be required.
· Strong leadership skills and ability to train and develop a staff including pharmacists and techs.
· Prior experience in oversight and ownership of all aspects of compounding
· Prior experience in developing and writing standard operating procedures
· Prior experience in compounding in a hospital, compounding pharmacy or specialty pharmacy
· Demonstrated competency in Compounding, pharmaceutical calculations.
· Ability to comprehend and critique patient therapy plans.
· Excellent verbal and written and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize workflow.
· Knowledge and skills related to drug therapies to ensure safe preparation and administration.
· Ability to develop and implement cost containment measures and new revenue sources.
· Ability to develop and implement quality control and performance improvement measures.
· Ability to make recommendations, develop programs and expand services to meet the therapeutic needs of the patient.
· Ability to learn and adapt to the use of automated information systems in daily practices.
· Ensure wage and non-wage expenses in areas of responsibility meet the department’s budget goals.
Typical Working Conditions:
· May work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking; for prolonged periods of time
· Potential exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as hazardous and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)
· Must be able to use necessary compounding equipment as well as computers, scanners, phone/headset, or other technology devices as assigned
· Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment (PPI) for long periods of time when required
