Camper and Staff Care Director Sephardic Adventure Camp

Prior to Camp Season:

  • Playing a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff learning related to mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH)
  • Work with Directors on staff training and developing a plan for ongoing staff learning
  • Develop plan to check on Mental health and wellness for campers and staff
  • Review camper forms and highlight red flags
  • Be in touch with parents about questions from forms in advance of camp
  • Work with Nurses/Dr. on any relevant health plan issues

During Camp Season:

  • Creating and implementing programming for small groups of campers focused on wellness and social-emotional learning.
  • Serving as a resource to campers and staff throughout the summer in facing mental, emotional and social health challenges, and creating environments where campers can thrive.
  • Managing information about camper and staff needs, and communicating those to staff, as well as documenting communication and plans within SAC’s systems.
  • Communicating and managing relationships with parents/caregivers in regards to camper needs.
  • Preparing reports to funding agencies in relationship to mental emotional and social health of SAC and its campers, including sharing high-level understandings of interactions and interventions taking place throughout the summer.
  • Participate in Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Community of Practice as part of our camp’s place in the Yedid Nefesh program, including two or three virtual gatherings and one in-person gathering per year with other Jewish camp mental health professionals.
  • Be an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community.
  • Coordinate with operations when there are physical needs of campers and staff that need tending to
  • Support counselors in addressing issues/challenges that come up in bunks
  • Support campers as appropriate, especially with homesick campers
  • Take care of all laundry related camper emergencies.
  • Be the first line of communication with campers who are homesick (meet daily with kenny on how it’s going)
  • Be in charge of returning lost objects to campers- particularly after the short session
  • Come in at bedtime to help with the younger campers (storytime, read books, etc)

Key Qualifications:

  • Graduate-level or higher degree in a mental health field. Including, but not limited to: social work, mental health counseling, psychology, youth psychiatry, family therapy, etc.
  • Prior camp experience in working with young children is preferred
  • Exceptional skill and capacity for engagement and relationship building with both children and their parents.
  • Proven ability to plan, originate, and organize programs.
  • Proven ability to provide emotional support to a wide range of ages.
  • Strong understanding of, and a willingness to be creative with, strategies to ensure campers of varying needs can be part of a mainstreamed program.
  • Be a leader, self-starter, and strong collaborator.
  • Ability to accept guidance, constructive feedback, and support from teammates.

Sephardic Adventure Camp is a small 115 camper, 55 staff member Modern Orthodox Jewish overnight camp. It’s located in Cle Elum, WA (75 minutes away from Seattle).

Dates:

June 19- July 11

Compensation:

Between $3600-$4700 depending on experience with travel expenses covered

Lodging:

Could be put up at a hotel 10-minute drive from camp. Will have access to a camp vehicle every day to drive back and forth if that happens. Friday night will be arranged in the limited adult housing we do have on campus
